Steel Cleaner PRO (SC PRO)

Accelerated Joint Pickling / Degrease Chemical Additive for Acid Tanks in Zinc Galvanization.

Steel Cleaner PRO (SC PRO), is an additive for use in zinc galvanization or other metal manufacturing processes that radically cuts production costs by removing required heating inputs and by combining degrease and pickling tanks into a single chemical process at ambient temperature (HCl) resulting in increased throughput of finished steel in hot dip, electrolytic or continuous steel production systems.

SC PRO is a radical chemical simplification of a traditional heavy industry process that eliminates the need of using heated baths (cost and environmental waste reduction) and accelerates by nearly 3x product output at a time when industrial production costs have soared due to rising fuel and raw material costs. These benefits will plants annually by reducing downtime and improving plant utilization. The product easily integrates into existing production lines at 1% solution, is completely biodegradable, requires minimal supervision, training, and improves the quality and evenness of final zinc coatings while decreasing wastage of precious zinc.

Existing galvanization requires multi-stage heated acid tanks with anti-vapor, anti-corrosion solutions to degrease and pickle steel prior to actual molten galvanization.

SC PRO simplifies these processes while lowering cost and production output through unique chemical additives to existing production runs.
  • Accelerates galvanization degreasing and pickling 2x to 3x
  • Lowers production costs by combining multiple degrease and pickling stages into single step
  • Lowers Energy Input Costs by dropping heating requirement to room temperature
  • Eliminates additional redundant anti-vapor, anti-corrosion inputs
  • Minimizes Costly Zinc Waste by minimizing zinc ash formation in the kettle
  • Improves Evenness and brilliance of final zinc coating
  • Integrates Easily into existing infrastructure lines without the addition of new hardware or complex system changes
  • Eco-friendly, efficient product is easy to use following daily recharge schedule

    Performance Details

At the 5 micron level - the surface of steel cleaned with SC PRO is smoother resulting in less required molten zinc for a finished galvanization. Acid alone without SC PRO will de-nature the metal surface, and create micro-pores that have require higher levels of zinc in order to create a fully galvanized product. SC PRO is anti-corrosive and limits acid reaction with surface soiling, oxidation, and surface oils. The reduction of surface pore limits the amount of zinc required, and more importantly the cleaner finish of steel prior to galvanization limits the amount of zinc ash formation in the kettle.

    Regulatory Environment

SC PRO meets product California requirements for industrial detergents and does not require speciality classification or permit to be sold or used. 3rd Party testing is currently underway for for additional certificates on mammal, aquatic toxicity reports.

    Product Disposal

SC PRO is fully biodgradable both in production and elimination, recycles through BETA acid recuperation systems, and has a net positive environmental impact by combining degrease and pickling processes into a single step at room temperature, saving production plants natural gas and/or other fuel inputs compared with traditional processes. The product eliminates the need for additional expensive and now redundant anti-corrosion, and anti-vapor products, and lowers required zinc ash formation in the final kettle stage by 20% to 50%. Finally as the product is free of oils and alkalines, the production of wasteful zinc iron ash in the kettle is minimized and has steel at the 5 micron level is smoother with less micro-pores - less zinc ore is required for galvanization.

The product is removed as waste through already existing plant acid recuperation systems that recycle plant acids. Almost all galvanizers recycle and filter acid, separating iron ore residue removed through pickling and galvanization from the acid wash. This is done through acid recuperation systems that pump water and other chemicals to filter and reinstate the acid balance. Any waste in the acid wash is either disposed, sold and or used in the production of mineral rich fertilizers. As a biodegradable product, any residue of SC PRO in the waste is evaporated or decomposed of naturally in the waste. As an industrial surfactant with a neutral pH, the product does not affect drain systems, local water codes in California or fertilizer formation.

    Steel Cleaner PRO (SCPRO) FAQ

What is the recommended blend of H2S04 (Hydrosulferic Acid) and Steel Cleaner PRO Solution in pickling lines?

It is recommended that Steel Cleaner PRO be added to solution at 1% to 2% solution.

How often should Steel Cleaner PRO be recharged to the acid tank?

Depending on the volume of the tank and tonnage passed through the tank, a daily recharge schedule will be provided and calculated. Usually 2 kilos of product are added daily. A technical support staff will work with plant managers to maximize daily usage of the product.

Where do oils, grease and soils eliminated from steel in degreasing go? Do they float to the top of the solution or remain in solution?

Depending on the density of the particular removed oil - oils and grease will either remain in solution, evaporate, or float to the surface of solution.

    Should surface oil be removed?

Yes - to avoid oils passing to other tanks, it is recommended that oil be removed and skimmed from the surface of the acid and disposed of. It is recommended that this is done every 2 days or depending on user preference.

How is oil skimmed from the surface of the solution?

The oil is removed via skimming with a polyethylene heavy density plastic container or other removal device. Skimming is recommended every few days for a few moments from the surface of pickling tank.

How should oil be disposed of?

Please use a plastic drum and dispose of oil according to local standards for oil disposal. DO NOT DISPOSE OF OIL IN WASTE WATER.

Does the acid tank require constant agitation or blending?

No, however if an existing agitation system (gas or mechanical) exists there is no concern over usage.

How should the product be stored?

Please store product in original container in warehouse space without direct sunlight or heavy heat.

How should the product be disposed? What should I do in an event of product (Steel Cleaner PRO spillage)?

Please wash ground with water or use chemical absorbent materials (sawdust or other speciality products) to remove spillage. The product is not toxic to human touch.

Is the system compatible with acid recuperation systems such as the BETA?

Yes - the system is compatible with acid recuperation systems and will not affect post residue Iron Sulfate as the additive material is an organic biodegradable compound. For every 100 Kilos there will be less than 50 grams of Steel Cleaner PRO passed into iron sulfate and will dissolve and evaporate. Please refer to the product MSDS sheet for additional notes on safety.
